Pizza in Suburbia

Hello again! I am excited to write this entry about a little gem I fell in love with a few months ago. Now, I’m not talking about diamonds, sapphires and such. I’m talking about a fairly new restaurant in … no, not Vancouver, but Burnaby! Yes, that’s right, this self-admitted restaurant snob has found another restaurant to her liking.

I had a fabulous first but wanted to try it a few more times before writing. Cotto Pizzeria, located at 6011 Hastings Street, Burnaby, is a very sleek, upscale casual dining establishment, that is surrounded with well-manicured, beautiful Rosemary bushes.

The bar is very clean and as far as wine selection goes, the list holds promise for wine lovers like myself.

Each time I’ve been there, I’ve been greeted at the door and promptly seated. Upon entering, to the right is a large pizza oven. The lighting has an intimate appeal – good for couples or small groups. Personally, I don’t like groups of more than eight people because it’s hard to spend quality conversation with each person.

And I have to mention this because we as consumers all notice levels of service, or none at all.  I have dined here many times and the service, as well as the food, has been very consistent.  I have never had to wave down wait staff to refill water, take away done dishes, to pay the bill …. the staff were all very attentive to the goings-on.

Yes, I know, I am getting to the food. Cotto is now the 2nd pizzeria I know which serves authentic VPN certified Neapolitan pizza. If you’ve never gone past frozen and fast-food pizza, I highly recommend you spend your next meal here. Let’s take a look:

Linguine Vongole - on our first visit, and I forgot to take a photo BEFORE digging in!

Did I get your attention?  I am getting hungry looking at these photos!

Pizza Salmone - a very soft poached egg sits atop the pizza. Just before serving, break open and share among the slices :)

After a couple visits, I posted some pictures on my Facebook page, and three of my friends told me they booked a date shortly thereafter.  They were not disappointed.  I know one of them has been there more than once, and has thoroughly enjoyed the experiences.

Can you guess which one of these pizzas I ordered on every visit?
